Lost in Translation (this post can also be titled, "Free Entertainment")

I have always heard the phrase, "Lost in translation," and although I knew what it meant, I didn't know to what extent. Today, I found out just how hilarious some things can be when you translate and then retranslate. 
Just for fun, I started playing around with Google translate, and I laughed my head off at some of the things I came upon. For instance;


English: Hippos love their pig friends and go to pig parties whenever they can make it. 


Then I translated it into Dutch. It came out looking like this;


Dutch: Nijlpaarden houden van hun varkens-vrienden en ga naar varkens-partijenwanneer ze kan maken.


On Google translate you have the option to hear someone say the phrase in dutch. It's definitely very entertaining, so you should try it.


Then I thought to myself, "What if I translated the Dutch phrase into English? Would it mean what I wanted it to mean?" So I gave it a go. 


Dutch: Nijlpaarden houden van hun varkens-vrienden en ga naar varkens-partijenwanneer ze kan maken.


Translated into English; Hippos love their pork and friends go to parties where pigs can make them.


I must say, when I saw it fully translated, I literally laughed out loud. Mara Unni heard the commotion and came to see what I was laughing about. When she read it, she laughed out loud too. I hope you did as well. And after reading this post, I hope you'll spend some time at Google translate. 'Cause you know, it's free entertainment. :D

Macaroons

While Mom, Rachel and Mara were in Paris this past May, they went to the famous Pierre Hermé to get macarons. Not only were they utterly exquisite to look at, they tasted divine! I quickly became a fan! I’m completely fascinated by how the simplest of ingredients can create such a scrumptious treat, and have been wanting to try out a recipe. Coming across cannelle et vanilla has inspired me to take one onJ Her pictures are bee-yoo-ti-ful and her recipes look awemazing!

When we were in St. Louis, we went to the Art Museum in Forest Park. The stairs in the back of the museum have mirrors on both sides of the wall, and when you look in it you see yourself x thousand. It's pretty neat!

A Day in St. Louis

Two weeks ago, Mara Unni, Exie, Havalah, and I went to St. Louis to celebrate Rachel's birthday. Hosanna and Havalah had a lot of fun playing together-so much so, that when it was time for us to leave, Havalah was almost in tears.

Rachel wanted to eat at Jilly's Cupcake Bar for lunch. We all got sandwiches or quesadillas and the serving sizes were so large it was almost impossible to finish! The cupcakes were absolutely amazing. Sadly, I can no longer remember the names of the cupcakes we bought, but one (maybe this one?) was lime, another one lemon (possibly the one below) and the third some sort of aloha islandy flavor. :D

First Day of Summer!

Summer! Oh yeah, baby! Doesn't it scream picnics, homemade ice cream, water parks, camping, grilling? Already we have had a uber awesome water fight and mom just bought corn on the cob so that means a cookout sometime soon! And today Havalah suggested we bike down to our local gas station and get ice cream. I think it is a very good idea, and we will probably do it sometime this week! ....I want this summer to be relaxed, but also, completely filled with all the aforementioned fantastically fun things. :)
