A Goofy Day

One day in July Mom, Exie, Seth, and I went to visit Qix who was staying a week with Mara Unni.

We dressed a little wacky . . .

Acted a little strange. . .

Tried out a few unusual hairdos. . .

And all in the middle of Dairy Queen!

Two Girls and a Bunch of Books

Havalah and her friend Lily got out the whole basket of children's books and spread them on the floor.
Then they proceeded to read them all . . .at least, as much as they could manage until playtime was over.

Another Continuing Story

In a land far, far away, three pigs and their friend Billy the Giraffe decided to take a cooking class. The instructor was kind, yet terrifying. His voice was soft, yet demanding. Nobody in the class could understand his character. Disgusted with the lack of gentlemanliness he showed, she promptly walked out of his house, slamming the door on her way out, when she ran into some tall skinny, (or slim, would be the right term) guy. The first glance was a bit of a shock, expecting him to at least try Tai Chi. Argh! nothing I took up, seemed to stick in my pea-brain. AH! But I might try learning origami! Yes, I understand now!" She quickly folded some paper to demonstrate. He was not impressed. "I can do that," he said. So he walked over to the ice cream stand and began to devour gallon after gallon of ice cream. Pretty soon, he was feeling rather sick and couldn't keep his eyes open for much longer. His stomach was making loud noises and his head was getting dizzy, but oh! how his eyes felt like heavy weights and they just kept closing, but NO! He must stay awake and listen carefully to the teacher. He was so ugly. I didn't mean to be rude, but what could you say to buck teeth and a whiny voice? My sigh came out very exasperated. It was embarrassing. Everybody laughed. It was the worst moment of the day. She sighed in satisfaction. Despite the tumultuous events of the day, everything had ended well. :D

A Continuing Story

Millie spent Sunday evening with us and we had so much fun with her! We played Mad Gab, baked oreo cheesecake bars, and wrote continuing stories! For those who don't know, a continuing story is where one person writes a sentence or two, folds the paper so that only the last sentence or part of the last sentence is visible, and then passes the paper on to someone else, who will continue the story without knowing what the previous person was writing about. It's so much fun! I'll be posting the ones that we wrote Sunday evening all this week.

The lights were shining so brightly. She envied those lights. Ella wished she could have that same glow again. He searched and searched, and one day he found it. The glow he had seen earlier was coming from a girl's beautiful blonde hair! So long and wavy, just toughing it felt wonderful. And looking at the back of it, was simply beautiful but when she turned around . . . wow, what happened? My life or heart spotted the wrong back and I raced towards him calling. But right as he turned around (and I realized it wasn't actually him) I tripped on my heels and the chai tea went off. He quickly turned off the oven and ran outside to see what was happening. He was ecstatic! The little red dwarfs loved him! The rest of the day they spent collecting raspberries and making chocolate shakes. After they finished making them, then here goes the tasting. Picking up the glass, slowly pouring the shake into it, opened wide, closed eyes, and drank my mango/pineapple slushy. Ah, this was the life. Lazing on the beach of Hawaii watching HOT surfers ride the waves. I could certainly get used to this :D She was in bliss. Nothing could end her happiness. Well, almost nothing. Except for her. She was alone in the corner. Maxwell beckoned his head in an invitation to join the group. She nodded her head in acceptance and walked over to join them.

Fashion

This week has been crazy hectic, but I found some random posts on fashion that I though I might share. ;) Don't you love Karla's combinations?

Would you wear men's Levi's?

Imma lovin' these bowties!

Favorite Hepburn quote on beauty.

THE most comfy looking sweats ever!

I think almost any girl would opt for the lazy look...it is just sooo much faster in the morning!

Wow! Totally eye-popping colours and clothes.

Oh goodness. This burning house post made me giggle. :) Everything seems to be gifts from a Very Important Person. Even the underwear. =D

Everything was found from various sites/blogs around the web! Burning House; BlackEiffel; Rag Pony; Refinery 29; Fashion4Us; Forage Bowties; TomboyStyle; Karla's Closet.

Qix and Mox Discuss the First Day of School

Mox: This morning before going to work, Dad popped into my room and saw that I was awake and was all, "Well, this is unusual." And I was like, "Yeah, it's the first day of school . . . "

Qix: Mox is a VERY heavy sleeper, and wouldn't nomally have gotten up at 7:15. Not that I would have either...but

Mox: There happened to be a definitions quiz THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOl (what is up with that??) and so I was doing my best to memorize a few useless words.

Qix: Hey, I did too! And was it as hard as you thought? nope. See, Mrs. Leonard* is the sweetest thing. :)

Mox: I wasn't sure. I've never had Mrs. Leonard before, and you can never tell with those math teachers. Speaking of things you can never be certain of, how was econ?

Qix: Hmm, well. Mr. Houvenor is supposed to be rather strict, (even his daughter told me so) but hopefully nothing will happen on my part to incur his wrath. :) It will not be my favorite class but I have to take it. *sigh*

Mox: Aren't you the only girl in algebra 2?

Qix: Wow. Good subject. And yes, I am. Waaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! It is definitely very competitive. The boys talk back and forth while doing their problems and our teacher has to slow them down. Oftentimes they whiz by a problem so fast it ends up being wrong. whew, I was drained after it.

Qix: What do you think of all the Freshmen?

Mox: There are so many freshman I'm overwhelmed! I don't know half the school. So weird.

Qix: yeah, me too. Although, it'll make Cornerstone** gossip all the more interesting.

Mox: Now that you mention it, I realize gossip last year was limited to Adam's beard and Graham's temper tantrums.

Qix: Mm, which was quite fascinating (the beard). Do you remember the time he shaved half his face? So strange.

Mox: I know. One side was a full grown beard and the other side was clean shaven. Horribly fascinating to look at.

Qix: He also grew it out soo much, he looked like a monkey and would stick pencils, paper clips, erasers, and even small candy in it. Ugh. Not cool.

*commence pause for 10 minutes to talk with mom about Adam's personally, antics, and various other things about him.*

Mox: So, we're back! And I think we should talk about lunch. Specifically . . .

Qix: . . . the teachers table!!! oh my gosh. They are the most adorable things ever.

Mox: There were 7 or 8 of them crouched around a tiny tiny card table, right in the middle of the lunchroom, that looked like it would keel over from all the food on it!

Qix: And they were just all talking, and laughing and seemed to be having the grandest time.

Mox: Well, who wouldn't? It's the first day of school and there was free food!

Qix: Teehee! You've got a point. :)

*Mox and I both have Mrs. Leonard for our math classes, this is my second year with her.
** Cornerstone is the name of the co-op we take classes at.

A little tidbit . . .

It's time for me to get back into the swing of things! School starts next week and a bunch of other things will pick up after that (read: music lessons). To quickly recap my summer (I didn't do much, it was a lazy summer): I went to a friend's sunrise wedding (at 6 in the morning, so neat!), spent a week with my Unni doing awesome things like making embarrassing videos of ourselves, picnicking, and going to the humongous Marian County Library and in general, just did whatever it crossed my mind to do (bike rides, especially late night ones, were super fun and never coupled with any remorse or regretful thinking because I didn't have to get up early in the morning the next day!). Here's to enjoying the rest of summer and looking forward to the beginning of fall!

Electric Violin and Beatbox: The Devil Canon

I found this version of Canon In D to be quite fascinating. Beat boxing amazes me, and paired with an amazing electric violinist, the result is impressive. :) I hope you enjoy this!

Moon River

Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me
.

Moon River has become one of my favorite songs. Audrey Hepburn sings it in the movie "Breakfast At Tiffany's", and although her voice is incredibly soft, it just enhances the lullaby feel of the song.
